An enlargement of a river
Lake St-Peter is an unparalleled area of Quebec which is a vaste enlargement of the majestic St-Lawrence River.
The lake consists of islands which form a labyrinth of channels
and marsh land in an area covering 480 km².
Archipelago of Lake St-Peter
Composed of 103 islands, Lake St-Peter is characterized by
the
richness and the remarkable variety of wildlife. The territory
is 90% natural and 40% represents marsh habitat of the St-Lawrence
River.

The Wildlife
Of the 116 fresh water species of fish registered in Quebec, 79 can
be found in Lake St-Peter. Furthermore, 288 species of birds have been observed in the area of the lake and 167 have used the area
a nesting ground. Lake St-Peter is considered as one of the major resting areas for migratory birds of the St-Lawrence River and also protects le most important nesting areas of herons in North America.
The 103 islands and lake were officially recognized as a " World Biosphere Reserve of Lake St-Peter " in November of 2000, by UNESCO.
